Diablo 4 Season 16 comes with a ton of updates that might change the way you play

The Season 16 PTR opens October 27, bringing War Plans upgrades, new Horadric Items, and a two-boss encounter.

Diablo 4 Pandemonium reaper and chained demons in from in his lair

After the amazing Season 15 we just had in Diablo 4, it is time to see what is coming next. The 3.3.0 PTR for Diablo 4 Season 16 will be available from October 27, 10:00 a.m. PDT to November 3, 10:00 a.m. PST.

As always, the PTR is only available for those who play through the Battle.net launcher, and you will be able to test the upcoming features and new content.

This time, Blizzard focused on huge changes to the War Plan system for both Eternal and Seasonal realms, reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities, and powerful new Horadric items.

And on top of that, some features from the Season of Hell's Legacy will be carried forward into Season 16! But these will not be part of the PTR, so we will only know what stays later on.

What Can You Test During the 3.3.0 PTR

There is a lot to go over, and we will do that in more detail in separate articles, so here is a general overview of what you can expect:

  • War Plan Tactics

    • A new meta progression system that allows you to increase the chances of getting the content and rewards from War Plans that you need the most

    • Earn points from completing War Plans, and use them to increase the chance to get specific activities or rewards

  • Respect War Plans

    • A new currency is added: Marks of Wisdom

    • Earn those by completing War Plans

    • Spend those to change nodes in your War Plan Tactics, and in the individual Activity trees (instead of spending gold)

    • In the PTR, Marks of Wisdom are capped at 20

  • Tyreal's Boons

    • New Season-themed War Plans tree called Tyreal's Boons

    • Allows you to fit your War Plans rewards and activities for that season

    • You will have choices such as gaining more Seasonal reputation or currency, or more generalized perks such as reducing Obol costs at the Purveyor of Curiosities

    • All Seasonal players can access Tyreal's Boons. You do not need Lord of Hatred for that one

  • Supercharge Charm Bonuses

    • The Death Cult of Ullo Sar introduces Horadric Items

    • These are Legendary Items that create a direct synergy between your equipped items and your Talisman set bonuses

  • Pandemonium's Dual Threat

    • The Fractured Reaper is merging with the Corrupted Reaper

    • You will fight both at the same time

    • The loot is said to be "epic", but the fight is just as hard

As always, you can boost a character in PTYR to get access to all the content, and feel free to send your feedback to Blizzard so they can get ready for Season 16's launch.

The 3.3.0 PTR: What You Need to Know

The 3.3.0 Public Test Realm (PTR) for Diablo IV’s Season 16 will be available from October 27, 10:00 a.m. PDT to November 3, 10 a.m. PST, offering you the chance to test upcoming changes and features coming in the next season for the base game, shaking up how you play cross both Eternal and Seasonal Realms.

The purpose of the PTR is to test updates and features before the launch of the next season, where we’ll be focusing on significant additions to the War Plans system for both Eternal and Seasonal play, reworked Infernal Hordes, Pit, and Lair Boss activities, and powerful new Horadric Items that create fresh synergies between your equipped gear and Talisman system.

Using your reports, we’ll make adjustments before the next season goes live. This helps us to fine-tune balance changes, address eliminate bugs, and create the best experience possible while testing new systems. Thank you for playing through the PTR and sharing your thoughts with the team.

We heard your feedback: some features from the Season of Hell's Legacy will be carrying forward into Season 16. However, these will not be part of this PTR, as we want to focus on new features for testing. Next week, we'll have more information about which favorite features will continue into the new season.

Here is what the 3.3.0 PTR will preview ahead of next season.

Customize Your War Plans

War Plans Tactics is a new meta progression system that allows you to increase the likelihood of getting the content and rewards from War Plans that matter most to you.

Earn points from completing War Plans activities, then invest these points into nodes to increase the chance of preferred activities or rewards appearing. This allows you to tailor your War Plans more closely with both your goals and playstyle.

Spend up to 3 points into any War Plan Activity node to give it a better chance to appear in your offered War Plans over other types. Allocating at least 1 point into Helltides or Nightmare Dungeons also opens a choice to increase the chances for Greater Helltides or Escalation Dungeons.

Assign up to 3 points into any type of Reward node for better chances to pick your preferred rewards:

  • Armor

  • Weapons

  • Jewelry

  • Obducite

  • Salvage

  • Gems

  • Gold

  • Activity Keys

  • Horadric Cube Materials

  • Talisman Items

War Plans Tactics will be available for both Seasonal and Eternal content.

Respec War Plans With Marks of Wisdom

When you turn in completed War Plans, you’ll be rewarded with a new currency, Marks of Wisdom. Instead of spending gold, you’ll use Marks of Wisdom to change nodes in both your War Plans Tactics tree and the individual Activity trees.

In the PTR, Marks of Wisdom are capped at 20.

Power Your Season with Tyrael’s Boons

Starting with Season 16, a new Season-themed War Plans tree called Tyrael’s Boons allows you to tailor your War Plans rewards and activities for that season. For example, you’ll have season-specific choices such as gaining more Seasonal reputation or currency, or more generalized perks such as reducing Obols costs at the Purveyor of Curiosities. All Seasonal players can access Tyrael's Boons; owning the Lord of Hatred expansion is not required.

You can earn up to 132 points, enough to choose up to 4 of 6 available selections within the four available paths.

In Season 16, the four paths are as follows:

  • Curious Addition: Modifies the Purveyor of Curiosities to increase chances for a second item, and offer either new item types or improve the chances for higher-quality items. You can also select an options to make the Purveyor far more expensive, but increase the likelihood of getting Ancestrals.

  • Merchant of Mystery: Adds a new merchant at Torment difficulty selling caches for Forgotten Souls. Invest points to increase the chances of Ancestral Caches. Select a path to buy caches with Runes or Gems or increase the amount and quality of Ancestral Caches on offer.

  • Scent of Gold: Increase the amount of gold and experience you get. One path also increases the number of Horadric Cube materials and Gem Fragments you find, and the other improves monster drops of Gold and Gems. You can also increase your chances of finding a Legendary.

  • Trash for Treasure: Transmuting costs at the Alchemist are reduced, and you can choose to invest in a better chance for Forgotten Souls. The first path gives more Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration, and the other gives monsters a chance to drop more Obducite and Salvage. At the end, salvaging Ancestral Items gives a chance to grant a Scroll of Restoration. It also opens a new Horadric Cube recipe, Greater Temper, which upgrades the Tempered Affix on an item to a Greater Affix for the cost of 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite.

You can unassign points in Tyrael's Boons for 5,000,000 gold per point.

The Tyrael’s Boons tree does not replace Seasonal Blessings. Season Blessings will become a static system with the same five Blessings on offer each time. Together, these combine a solid foundation of reliable perks to personalize your journey.

Supercharge Charm Bonuses with Horadric Items

The Death Cult of Ullo Sar introduces Horadric Items, Legendary items that create a direct synergy between your equipped items and your Talisman set bonuses. Horadric affixes modify a specific Talisman set, with varying effects depending on the item type.

Jewelry items with Horadric affixes increase your set bonus count by 1 for the specific Talisman set. Unlike Seal of the Diamond Mind, you only need to have 1 charm equipped to enjoy the 2-piece set bonus with a corresponding Horadric jewelry item. You’ll be able to activate a larger bonus with fewer charms, freeing up slots for multiple set bonuses or new charm combinations.

Armor and Weapon items with Horadric affixes add new effects that activate if you have at least a two-set bonus from a defined Talisman set. These can include perks such as skill rank bonuses, bonus damage, and improved defensive capabilities.

Face Pandemonium’s Dual Threat

In Season of Death Awakening, the Corrupted Reaper terrorized Sanctuary. In Season 16, she brings reinforcements.

The Fractured Reaper will lend her strength to Pandemonium’s war against Sanctuary by merging her abilities with that of the Corrupted Reaper. You won’t have just the power of two formidable but separate lair bosses – you’ll have two eldritch powerhouses working together synergistically, abilities combining to annihilate all but the most powerful challengers.

The loot will be epic … but you’ll have to earn it!
